Charlieu's hotel-Dieu was originally in the surrounding wall(speaker) of the Abbey Benedictine of the city where it welcomed, in Moyen-Age, poor men and pilgrims.
In the XVII-th century, it(he) becomes independent and is situated henceforth in her(it) "Grand Rue" of Charlieu
. From then on, it is nuns of the order of saint - Marthe that will lavish their care to the patients. The Hotel-Dieu closed its doors in 1981. It is in the walls, a magnificent building of the XVIII-th century, that was created the Hospitable Museum.
It(he) benefits from the label "controlled museum" awarded by the Ministry of Culture.
You will discover it reconstructions of rooms dating the end of the XIX-th century in year 1950 : the big room of the patients with its adaptations of beds, but also the rooms of care and operations and the lingerie.

The apothicairerie, classified Ancient memorial, keeps(preserves) its beautiful woodwork of the XVIII-th, its drawers with plants and beautiful set(group) earthenware jars of the XVIII-th with blue decoration. The religious dimension of the hospitals of formerly is evoked notably by the presence of the chapel the magnificent gold-coloured wooden altarpiece of which (classified Ancient memorial) is visible of the museum.

The museum is opened from February till December. From February 1-st till June 15 and from September 16 till December 31 opened from 14 o'clock till 18 o'clock, closed on Mondays.
