Jewel of the Renaissance of Forez, the castle of La Bastie is Claude d'Urfé's work. Ambassador of François 1-st in Rome of the XVI-th century, then governor of dolphin, it(he) was inspired by its(his) stay in Italy and by royal realizations to fit out its(his) castle in the taste the Renaissance.
Italian artists created a chapel, real leader of work where paintings and gypseries unite in an unique decoration. Claude also made fit out a room of Loose stones, decorated with sculptures and decorated with rich mythological decorations realized in pebbles, shells and sands of colour. Lined by a canal, the gardens of the XV-th century included flowerbeds and fountain of white marble today reconstituted, a maze, a pergola and a pond.
