Chapel of La Valette
Translated by software

Situated in a case of greenery in two kilometres of Salvizinet's village in the direction of Panissières, the chapel of La-Valetta is a very ancient placed quoted church as a chapel in the year 1000 and as the church in the XI-th century.

The parish of La-Valetta ("Valle's villa"), annexes of Salvizinet, depended on the prieuré Benedictine of Salt-en-Donzy.

The Chapel is humble one sanctuary, consisted of a nef prolonged by a choir in semicircle. She(it) is characteristic of the primitive Romanic art of the XI-th century in Forez :

Capitals(big tops) of archaic style crown columns in the embrasure of the gate(portal) and inside, under arcatures leaned in walls ; they are sculptured by motives in the rudimentary forms : foliages, human, animal masks. A decoration painted by the XIII-th in the XIV-th century covers partially the internal walls. Windows are widely ébrasées inside, to let penetrate into a maximum of light.

In the XIX-th century, modifications are brought to the building; the nef is then covered with cross vaults, the current bell tower replaces probably a bell tower - wall.

To the right of the chapel you will discover an enclosure(pen) which is the place of the cemetery of the village. A cross raises itself(draws up itself) there whose base of the granite trunk is dug by a niche intended for the lantern of the deaths.
