Bourg Argental

Bourg-Argental, chief town of the canton the same name and territory of the community of communes of the Déôme, is situated in the administrative district of Saint-Etienne , in the south of the Loire department. It lies ont the southem slope of the Pilat, in a valley where three rivers converge : the Déôme, the Riotet and the Argental. Know as the "Gates of the sun", it is still considered to be the warden of major roads such as the number 82 highway which since 1936, has run from Paris to Nice and has been christened the "Blue Road".

In the oldest part of Bourg-Argental, behind the church choir one can just make out the ancient moasts of the fortified town.

In 1853 the commune repurchased the oldest building, some of which dates back to the XVth and XVIth centuries, to install the town hall and justice of the peace. The old apartments contain some beautiful woodwork. This building now houses the Museographic Centre for the Discovery of the Pilat natural regional park and the Tourist Office.

This dynamic and commercial village is also a favoured place for walking all year round or for relaxing at the natural Leisure Space.
